Customer: A premium cold-pressed juice manufacturer in Colombia
Industry: Food & Beverage – Cold-Pressed Juice Production
Project Background
A well-established beverage company in Colombia, specializing in premium, natural, cold-pressed fruit and vegetable juices, recently launched its new high-end bottled sugarcane juice line. The product is positioned around a “no additives, minimal processing, fresh-from-the-press” concept, aiming to deliver authentic sweetness while achieving an extended shelf life suitable for commercial distribution.
During pilot production, the customer encountered several critical challenges:
Insufficient clarity: Despite sedimentation and coarse filtration, fine suspended solids and colloidal particles remained, resulting in haze and slight sediment formation—unacceptable for a premium product.
Low filtration efficiency: Direct high-precision filtration caused rapid clogging of filter elements, leading to frequent shutdowns, high maintenance frequency, and rising operating costs.
Flavor and shelf-life balance: The customer sought to reduce microbial load and extend shelf life without heat treatment or chemical preservatives, while preserving the natural sweetness and freshness of sugarcane juice.
To overcome these challenges, the customer required a stable, scalable, and food-grade filtration solution capable of delivering both visual clarity and microbial control.
Technical Solution
After in-depth process analysis and laboratory testing of the raw juice, our engineering team designed and implemented a three-stage progressive precision filtration system, optimized specifically for cold-pressed sugarcane juice.
Stage 1 – Coarse Filtration (100 μm Bag Filter)
This stage removes larger impurities such as fine sugarcane fibers, pulp fragments, and insoluble particles.
Acts as a protective pre-treatment barrier
Significantly reduces the load on downstream precision filters
Prevents premature clogging and improves system stability
Stage 2 – Fine Filtration (Diatomaceous Earth Filter)
Using pre-coating and body-feed technology, a high-surface-area filter cake is formed to capture finer suspended solids, partial colloids, pigments, and microorganisms.
Substantially reduces turbidity
Produces a consistently high-quality feed for final filtration
Enhances overall filtration efficiency
Stage 3 – Terminal Sterile Filtration (0.45 μm Cartridge Filter)
This critical stage physically removes yeast, mold, and the majority of bacteria.
Achieves cold physical sterilization without thermal processing
Ensures microbiological stability and extended shelf life
Allows safe filling while preserving fresh flavor and nutrients
System Capacity: The complete filtration system operates stably at 5,000 liters per hour, fully matching the customer's large-scale production requirements.
Customer Feedback
Following commissioning, the customer reported outstanding results across product quality, operational efficiency, and market competitiveness:
Exceptional clarity: Finished sugarcane juice is crystal clear, with no visible suspended solids or sediment, significantly elevating the product's premium appearance.
Authentic flavor retention: The fully physical filtration process preserves the natural sweetness and freshness of sugarcane juice without heat damage or additives.
Stable and efficient operation: The staged filtration design prevents frequent cartridge blockage, enabling continuous operation at full capacity.
Optimized operating costs: Extended service life of high-precision terminal filters reduces consumable usage and maintenance expenses.
Stronger market positioning: The process concept of “Triple-Stage Precision Filtration with Cold Sterilization” has become a clear technical selling point, reinforcing brand trust and product differentiation.
The customer confirmed that the solution successfully balances visual quality, flavor integrity, production efficiency, and shelf-life extension, supporting the successful commercialization of its premium bottled sugarcane juice line.
